Marklin Big Boy

Does anyone know anything about the new Big Boy being produce by Marklin? Where it is availble? How much,etc?

You can see a photo of the Marklin/Trix Big Boy on this very Web site. Click on Model Trains on the top of the page, then on   "Manufacturers showcase new products at NMRA."

The two-rail DC version will be sold under the Trix name, and for the US market it will have wheel flanges matching the NMRA's RP25 contour. It's supposed to be available this fall, and you can check with Marklin Inc. in New Berlin, Wis., to find a dealer near you, as they say. Try the web site at www.marklin.com.

The suggested retail price is supposed to be about $585, which is a lot but only a quarter of what a new brass model would cost. I got a close look at the sample on show in St. Louis, and it was very nice.

They (Marklin) put one of those Big Boys in my hands! That's one HEAVY model. The flyer I have indicates the boiler,frame,tender body,and tender frame are all die cast. All drivers powered,the recommended minimum radius is 20" or larger but the loco can negotiate a 15"!!! radius.(looks better on the larger radii). The MSRP on this flyer is $598.00. I think the $585.00 might be the current MSRP for the Rivarossi Allegheny.(Also a beautiful piece of work).
