I'm just wondering if there are anyone else that's using model railroad stuff that their Dad used on his layout.
I have several locomotives, pieces of rolling stock & several structures that are still in good condition that I'm going to use on my layout.

I run my dads PCC and his very, very rare Canton SW7 dummy. I used to run his N scale stuff before switching to HO.

Indeed! I have a couple of pre-war and early post-war HO locomotives and a number of pieces of rolling stock my dad had on his layout in the late 1930's/early 1940's (in a time when to be a model railroader you really had to be a true craftsman). Don't normally actually run them but some of the freight cars are placed on sidings on my layout sort of as a tribute to him.

I have Dad's Rivarossi Pullman Passenger cars in Pennsy livery. I've replaced the Berkshire he once owned and I trashed, but that's it. kind of sad when you think about it.

Well Gordon, my dad knows nothing about trains, and still thinks I'm crazy for playing with them for as long as I have. Maybe the problem is that he never had any when he was young, because his family couldn't afford things like that back then.

In 20 years you should ask my son, I'll bet his answer is very different.[:D]

My dad is totally in the dark about what it is I do in my room. He is a 54 year old alcoholic who doesn't really pay attention to me. I just live in my parent house still.

Aggro,

I'm sorry to hear that life is less than "ideal" at your home. I'm glad that you focus your free time into something positive like model trains. I wished you lived closer, we would have you over for dinner. I'll tell you what, If my wife and I are ever in your neck of the woods and we may get up there some time, we'll take you out for dinner and talk trains.

I have most of my dad's rolling stock and locomotives--the only things that see regular use are the rolling stock (a handful of boxcars I've cleaned up), as the only engine in running condition is an SP GP7 I've mentioned before. I have one or two structures, ones I built as a kid for Dad's layout 25 or so years ago, and assorted bits of my "parts box" that I've had since I was nine or so. I consider them on extended loan, since he is also getting interested in model railroading again (my mom has told him he can't start another layout until he replaces our heating & air conditioner!) and I figure he'll want them back. I have enough rolling stock and motive power on my own to return what he lent me with interest, and am just keeping them clean and tidy until then...

I'm still using my dad's Hammant and Morgan power pack - he bought it sometime in the '70s when he was modelling the GWR (Great Western Railway, in UK) in OO scale - I'm now using it to run my HO scale models. It's superb for Athearn locos - they seem much quieter and smoother than with any other controller.

CP5415:

We are three generations of model railroaders. On behalf of my son, yes. He will be running some of my equipment once we figure out how to connect his Snap Trak layout 24" off the ground to my futue flex track layout 54" off the ground. This will be a sharing of rolling stock and engines.

My dad's stuff is in storage, and I'll likely be receiving some of that when he is ready. My brother might get some, but odd duck as he is, he opted for N scale (yes, I model N, too) rather than the family tradition of HO (where I invest most of my effort). I expect that rolling stock, engines, maybe a couple of structures, and maybe even some track (brass) [:(].

I don't think dad wants out of the hobby, but they moved into a smaller house after retirement where there is no place for a layout, and the eyesight goes, etc. His golf game is getting better, though!
