A Lionel train set for Christmas 1948 did the trick. Also when I would stay at my grandmothers for a couple days, she would take me to watch trains. We would watch the streamliners coming and going at the Fort Street Union Depot in Detroit. I still don't know if Granny was a trainwatcher, or just trying to keep me occupied.
