Every year a group of us from the model railroad club make the trek across the mountains from West Virginia to Timonium for the big model railroad show in Maryland. If you haven't seen this show, it is worth checking out. It is really big and scale only so there are no toys and no beanie babies. There are usually some real bargains. We are planning on stopping at this beautiful N&W layout which is having an open house after the show. Unless weather is a problem, it is a really great day for train buffs. I will post a report when I get back. - Nevin

It's in the Cow Palace at the MD State Fairgrounds on York Road. Exit 17 on I-83, go east, then south on York Road.
Web site is www.gsmts.com

It is a wonderful show. One of the biggest and best. I remember going as a child and they would have a entire wall full of brass to the ceiling. It was like a mecca for brass prigrims from the world over. (I dont know if it still exists)
Amen to no beanine babyes. The bottom dropped out from that market years ago.

This is for NevinW. Is the open house at the N&W layout for the general public or is it by invite?

For anyone desiring more information regarding this show, the following is listed on their mailer: "More info at www.gsmts.com...410-730-1036...hzane@comcast.net." It's a great show with many manufacturers present - from Don Tichy to Intermountain. This one will include the "All-American Hi-Rail & Collectors Train Show " in addition to the "Great Scale Model Train Show".

This is probably the best show I have seen in years. I was starting to avoid going to any "model train shows" anymore because they were overrun with dolls, toy cars, and other toys. A friend mentioned this show and I was overwhelmed by the volume of venders, options on merchandise, and how the whole operation ran. Even the "flea market" area was spectacular.
Also the model layout displays are fantastic. Some of the modular set-ups rival what I have seen in MR.
This show really revived my interest. If you can get there, I advise you go. You will not regret the time invested.
