Wanted: Design Software prgram to make Logos

I'm in the process of designing a logo for the MESS and after a disapointing search on the clipart sights I've decided to do my own design. Nothing fancy but something neat and tidy and looks authentic and that allows me to do wrap-a-round lettering.

has any one found an inexpensive design program to do this. I'm hoping to be running XP in a couple of weeks.

I have seen nice acceptable results from people using MS Word and Word-Art and similar standard Microsoft programs, but maybe someone has an old (so cheap or free) version of Corel Draw 7 or 8 for you, some years ago they gave them away with printers.
Some people think these versions are outdated, but if you don't want fancy modern design these older versions of corel draw are fine, and they are more user friendly than the professional programs like Macromedia's Freehand or Adobe Illustrator

I was in a Wal Mart on the west side of Calgary last week and while i was in the model paints area I seen a new product from Testor's, the same company that makes model paint. It is a computer disc and special decal paper for a printer. It was for designing your own on decals. It was only ten cunuck bucks. I dont know if anyone has tried this or had succes with it though.

I picked up the Testors decal paper yesterday as well, but it didn't come with a disk, so I'll keep my eyes open for it.

I just received the decal paper I ordered from Bel Decal yesterday. I used a Xerox color laser printer (sshh... at work) to create home road decals. Going to try applying them tonight. I used MS PowerPoint to do the lettering. I tried to see if it had a wrap around function ( I presume you meant to curve the lettering around a logo), but I couldn't find one. Corel or one of the drawing programs may do it. As far as the paper goes, I'll let you know.

If you're running XP in a few weeks make sure to read up on how to fool it into accepting Win95 programs.

I'll second LUPO's suggestion, get CorelDraw (old version); it's really neat and let's you do anything.

I agree with lupo about corel draw but another option is corel print house, this is a "dumbed down" version of corel draw but has all the features you need including the ability to disassemble many pieces of clip art so you can use only what you need. I have seen version 4.0 for as little as $10 and version 6.0 for around $30.
