Technically, I sleep with my layout! That is to say, under it. My layout is designed with very sturdy benchwork so there is a huge opening under it for my bed, a dresser, and some large storage containers. Me and my railroad occupy the same space every night!

Many nights I am up working on my layout, so that's how I voted. I often sleep well into the daylight hours. Sometimes if I'm having trouble falling asleep, I'll think about the layout, and fall right asleep, but I don't usually dream about it.

When I was younger I used to daydream a lot about trains and layouts, and sometimes when I need a break from working on my layout, I'll sit down and imagine what it will be like when I'm done. But I guess that has more to do with Fergie's poll about planning.[|)][:D]

While we are on the topic of trains and sleep, Jonesie reminded me of a time in my past, when I had my train display at the mall. There were times when I would take naps under the layout and fall asleep to the noise of the trains running overhead. It was a cold concrete floor, but the days were so long, and I was so tired, it didn't matter.

Someone asked a similer Q on another forum, so I'll post my reply from there...

No train dreams, but I keep having the same dream over and over again.

I'm standing on top of an Mayan pyramid dressed in glorious Sun God robes, while at the base of the pyramid 1000's of naked women are writhing on the ground calling out my name and throwing little pickles....

Do you think I should see someone about this??? Dr Phil Maybe?

   Have fun with your trains

I had to vote sleep like a baby. while I dream alot about my layout, I often dream about me being an admiral in Star Fleet Space Marines and I have all sorts of adventures on my layout. Speaking of Star Fleet. I am considering changing eras, to the late 23rd or 24th centuries and all the lines that I model in their dispareate eras are actually part of a giant preserved Rail network in the the Western US. Now quite unlike to old D&RGW Narrow Gauge lines. where roughly half of the railroad was preserved. (With the right of way for the other half still ripe for reclaimation.) Its going to be fun fantasising what trains of the future look like :)

I also share the same room as my layout but I can honestly say I have never had any dreams about it. Mostly I dream about ships.

I've been having a dream lately and, it's almost like they're connected, like a series or something. Anyway, I dream I have my own real RR, the Midwestern. It's awesome, a bunch of vintage steam (like the 4000, which I often dream about driving) and first gen. diesels. It also opperates modern equiptment, too. Hmmmm, that'd make an awesome layout!

I dream of running the layout albeit my DREAM layout. Four track mainline...continuous running. Two passenger trains with loooooooooooong consists running in each direction, both steam and diesel (I like the transition era). Some freight service to add variety. Doodlebugs providing local service, along with a few MU's. One leg is the approach tracks to Union Station, with coach yards and intricate throat trackage aiming to and from the platforms....I could go on an on with this. But that's what I dream of most when I do dream of trains. All in the cozy confines of my basement.

I've never dreamed of seeing my partner operating in the nude. The thought of my dog somehow managing to use her paws to turn on the power and watch the 'toys roll' amuses me to no end, however.[(-D][(-D][(-D]

I dream about both real and/or model trains very frequently. I actually started a topic about train dreams in the Trains Magazine forums called "Do you dream about trains?". In there I mentioned some of my train dreams.
