New Jersey Central herald
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, July 13, 2001 7:51 AM
Looking for graphic or photo of the New Jersey Central herald used on the Blue Comet. Been unable to find a suitable image with enough detail so I can recreate it for my library of heralds.
If any one can help with some information I would appreciate it.

Thanks

This might be a tough one to come by. I acted as a consultant on the book "The Seashore's Finest Train" (about the Blue Comet) and have had a long interest in the train myself. However, I don't recall ever seeing what I would consider a large or closeup color image of the drum head. None of the CNJ books I'm familiar with show it as such. On the other hand, the pre-war circular "New Jersey Central" herald from the Comet/Bullet/etc. locomotive tenders appears quite often in print! Both Walthers and Clover House used to make an O scale decal set that included the herald but I don't believe these are in production any longer.

I'd suggest posting this question on the CNJ forum at www.railroadnet/forums/jersey/ as there are quite a number of informed Jersey Central fans there who should know if anything like this is actually available, and where.
