I'm new to model railroading and I'm thinking about doing a Christmas layout using Department 56 buildings, animals, etc. I'm wondering how close to HO scale the D56 products are and if my idea is worth persuing. Thanks for your help.

Ralph, welcome to the hobby. I don't know what your age is, But these are some of the best of times to get into the hobby. There is so much to be offered, the quality ofevery thing is so good and so accurate that I have a hard time imagining the products getting any better. I'm not familiar with your D56 products, But 3.5mm = 1 ft. It's not much in answering your question, but it is a referance place for you to start. Happy modeling. Jamie

As a Christmas layout where scale appearance is not really critical, it would probably be fine. However, D56 buildings are sized more closely to Lionel trains. The Bachmann On30 (O Scale narrow gage running on HO track) have been quite popular for a couple of years. The trains are sized better to the D56 buildings, but can use tighter radius HO curves. Ron
