ADMX tank car
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, July 7, 2001 9:53 AM
One type of car I see going thru the QCA (and see lot of on the Rochelle web cam) is a black ADM tanker. But I can't seem to find a model of this car anywhere!

Does anyone know who makes one, or have some ideas on how to model one ???

If I try to make one, I am not sure of the exact size or style of tank car to use, nor how to come up with the ADMX (and other) labels.

Also - what does this car carry ? I suspect liquid corn/grain products - maybe ethanol ?

Thanks!

ADMX is the reporting mark for archer daniels-midland corp. which means the products will be corn syrup, soybean oils and ethanol products mostly. I beleive Walthers has just released this in HO. They are usually 23m gal. tanks, but they also have 30m also.

Thanks for the info - but after an extensive search on the Walthers site, I still can not find an ADMX tanker in HO scale (there are several in O and N by makers other than Walthers). Lots of hoppers, though.

Do you have a reference for the Walthers model (either stock number or web reference) ???

Thanks.

George-

I might have a decal set for the ADM tank cars you are talking about. Microscale set #87-689 "ADM Tank Cars - CO2, Alcohol, Corn Syrup" has illustrations with the decals which show a 40'Corn Syrup car (black), a 60' alcohol car (black), and a 50' Carbon Dioxide car (blue and white). I have a set of 12 of the blue and white ones, which was put out by MDC Roundhouse a few years ago, and I messed up some of the decals so I bought this set. It should be a fairly easy project to make a set of these cars, especially since the entire car is painted black.
As far as Walthers is concerned, I'd check some online retailers. I remember Walthers producing a wide variety of tank cars, but I couldn't find them in the new catalog. They're out there, though. You just have to look. For an extensive list of online retailers, go to http://espee.railfan.net/biz_h.html
Some of the links are out of date, but you will likely find what you're looking for. Good luck!

Ryan -

Thanks for the great info about the Microscale decals and the tank car colors amd sizes !

Just what I needed !!

I am still amazed that more suppliers don't model this car - see tons of them here in the Midwest.

But now I should be able to make my own.

Thanks again !
