RR Tycoon too cool!!!
Posted by n2mopac on Thursday, January 1, 2004 11:08 PM
I haven't been around much over the past week or so due to holiday activities, but I had to post something about my cool Christmas gift. My wife gave me Railroad Tycoon 3 and I cannot stop playing it. If you have never tried this game it is an absolute must...unless of course you have a life that you don't want interrupted because you won't be able to stop untill your empire reaches that next great goal. How many others have played this game and what do you think of it. Let us know.

RRT2 was better, RRT3 just added some silly graphics, that all though nice, made seeing all the resources a pain. Over all RRT3 was just RRT2 made to look flashier, i was a bit disappointed in it.

I have experienced the RRT2 and like the easy way of dispatching trains. However on a Map such as traffic going to and from Washington D.C. and Richmond Va etc double track is not enough to carry all the traffic. I wanted to haul more than 6 cars in a train.

RRT3 was a "Visual" game. With that said, I found the F units, 2-8-2, GG-1 and the Big Electric (Bi-Polar?) Very enjoyable to run. The War Traffic Scenario is my favorite. I did wi***hey would just map the entire country like they did with RR2.

Happy New Year!

Put the computer games DOWN![}:)][}:)][}:)] Carefully back away and forget of thier existence, they are the spawn of the same evil empire [alien]that wishes to assimilate us all into the mindless collective![}:)][}:)][}:)]
Build a kit, or better yet, scratchbuild something, and use the hours that you while away to actually get something done!
Otherwise, all hope for the hobby is lost! [xx(]

I wish I could play RT3, but our computer can only play games made before 2001 and has no sound.[:(!]

I've got RR Tycoon 3. It's an awesome game. Although I have to admit I was a bit startled when I bought a Big Boy and it had yellow and black stripes. They ruined it!

Personally I like it. As one who played the and enjoyed the original, and RRT2 I think the graphics are better and I like some of the stream lining they did for the game play.
Enjoy

I can assure you that most of us are able to play a cool computer game and walk away from it when it is time. I spend more than ample time working on my real world RR empire (just ask my wife), but the video game is a nice diversion from time to time. I am certain that my playing RR Tycoon3 is no more adictive or a waste of my time than hanging around on this forum. I like to come here, read opinions, and throw in my 2 cents worth from time to time, but some obviously spend huge amounts of time here judging by the 164 post per day on theri profile ratings (obvious exaggeration). Lets no assume that because someone likes a video game that they spend hours every day playing it to the neglect of all else. Give us all a break.

Computer games will not break the hobby. In fact, I think that computers are a natural extension of the hobby. But not a "Mindless Collective" If my grandfather was alive today to witness a realistic run of the 4-6-4 NYC Hudson hauling the Empire during a winter storm on the North east corridor he would just love it. Never mind all the technology that makes it possible.

I personally have a worktable and I set aside some free time that other wise would have been used up on the computer or other activites and go build a kit or something. One of reasons I can do this is because I will be working around computers for a living once my studies are completed and there are plenty of time to deal with those nasty balky onery collections of silicon and electrons.

And finally [soapbox] again... I think in the next 5 years computers will assist us in running our 4th Generation DCC super duper deluxe automatic layout that is controlled automatically using real dispatch data steaming in from the internet and virtual interchanges with only human work required for derailments etc. Who knows? you could even IMAGE your layout into your computer and drive it using a RRT3 like interface. Perhaps you are bored at work and you decide to run your layout from a remote location? Many possiblities.
