Question about New RTR Athearn SP bay window caboose
Posted by sparkingbolt on Wednesday, December 31, 2003 5:59 PM
I recently ordered and received an Athearn bay window caboose kit in SP
They also got in a new RTR Bay window caboose, which is longer and has much nicer detail and paint, windows with "glass". Nice model. Can anyone tell me what class caboose this is, and what year it was produced? It's worth its extra price if I can use it for my '50s-'60s era layout. Thank You, Dan

Got my answer, only had to call the LHS and ask the class no. painted on the side of the caboose! duhhh.

It is a C-40-4, 200 of which were produced (starting) in 1964.
That's the same no. on the side of the older, smaller kit. I'd assume the newer is more accurate. I'll take 'em both. Not a rivet counter (dont like to be too far out of era with the equipment though.) Dan

OOPS! In above reply 1964 is a typo error, it should read 1961 Dan
