I also recall a Triplex 2-8-8-8-0 was built but did not see much use because if memory serves there was 2 issues. The first was the steam generation, the boiler was too puny to feed all those hungry cylinders. And the second was that while starting heavy loads the rear set of drivers under the tender would break loose and slip, robbing the rest of the engine of good traction and steam. <br /> <br />And by the way I think the Gross weight of the Alley was greater than that of the BB.
