Looking for MK1200G drawings
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, July 4, 2001 11:51 AM
Hello Everyone,

I have recently decided to pursue the NMRA Achievement Program and get my Master Model Railroader in motive power. To do this I need to scratchbuild a locomotive. The one I have tentatively chosen is the Morrison-Knudsen MK1200G Liquefied Natural Gas powered switcher built for Santa Fe and Union Pacific. So far I have managed to find a few photos that will help and an overall dimension, but I really need drawings to get this project off the ground. Does anyone know of any drawings printed in any magazine or other source of this locomotive?
Also, since I will have to scratchbuild the underframe for this locomotive, does anyone have any idea what kind of soldering outfit I will need to work with brass? So far the only thing I can't get sheet styrene to do is conduct electricity, so it looks like I'm stuck fabricating at least the underframe out of brass or some other metal. Any ideas? Thanks.

Try Motive Power Industries, Boise Locomotive Co. Division, successor to MK. Possibly the manufacturer can furnish you with what you are looking for. They do have a website.
