I would like to correspond with any model railroaders out there via email and snail mail that are fans of 4-6-0's, 2-10-0's, and CF7's. Does anyone know how many 4-6-0's and 2-10-0's still exist either as static displays or used by tourist railroads or shortlines?

A CF7 is a converted EMD F7. A brief history and images can be found here:

I have one modeled in Washington Central Railroad (WCRC), a local shortline that used to be here in Washington. It is now called the Columbia Basin Rail Way (CBRW). If you want to see them, they still run out of Moses Lake Washington. ;)

Warren,
Its nice to hear that someone else out there has a WCRC CF7. I also have a custom WCRC CF7 that I finished about a year ago. I must correct you though about the whereabouts of the two ex-Washington Central CF7's. Although Columbia Basin RR kept several WCRC locomotives, the CF7s were not among them. They, along with the WCRC's two GP7's eventually wound up on the Illinios Railnet (IR) and Nebraska-Kansas-Colorado Railnet (NKCR). I believe these two railroads share the same owner.

If anyone would like information about modeling a CF7, I would be more than happy to provide information.

Good to know Josh. Thanks for the update on them. Been a while since I was back out in Eastern Washington ;) I did my CF7 in...geez...95 or so I guess. I did two other WCRC engines as well, number 201 and 202. I'll see if I can get some pics up for you.

I was one of the many that had never even heard of the CF7s until I saw them. Then I did a bit of research on them and decided it would be fun to build.

Two CF7s are currently at work on the Santa Cruz, Big Trees & Pacific. They haul passengers (and a couple of cars of lumber from UP each week) from Santa Cruz to Felton, CA...

There will be at least one CF7 on my roster. I need to finish a few projects ahead of it first and collect a few more parts. I may try to pick up one of the Athearns down the line to join this one....

Josh, that's great news! I'd wondered what had happened to CF7s 401 and 402 after BNSF took over the WCRC operations in Yakima. I have a special attachment to 402, as that's the first locomotive I operated when I worked for Washington Central. Nice to know they're both still putting in useful service.

Saw ex-WCRC Geep 9 No.302 yesterday near Harrah on the old White Swan branch working for the Toppenish, Simcoe & Western.

i am trying to decide if i should add one to my layout. there really isnt anywhere i can put one, but they look pretty neat.

A local shortline, the Twin Cities & Western (TC&W), has a CF7 on its roster. I usually see it in Hopkins. I believe it is a slug unit.

Here are a couple pictures of my custom CF7. It started as a Rail Power Products CF7 shell and frame, and was lettered with Microscale decals for Washington Central 401.

I hope this works, as its the first time I've tried to post a picture.
