Do a test of this method. Get a little ball of solder on your iron and dip the end of the wire into this and the insulation should burn off. A gentle wipe of the wire should leave you with a nicely tinned end.

Has anyone installed these ditch lights before! As they are prewired is there a coating on the outside of the wires? If you cut them shorter how do you strip the wire to prep for soldering? The wires are smaller than the 30AWG stripper I have! I tried nail clippers but it just seems to flare the end of the wire! or do you just solder them and the insulation, melts off?
