My favorite non-sound decoder was the the NCE D13SRJ that was available for as little as $16 each. Small, great motor control, easy consist programming including automatic lighting effects in the consist, lots of lighting effects to choose from and J style connector makes it easy to install or change out a decoder if ever necessary. NCE has replaced the D13SRJ decoder with the D13J decoder. The D13J is an even smaller decoder although it has less current capacity (D13SRJ - 1.0/1.5 amps versus D13J - 0.75/1.2 amps). Pricing is under $19 for one or as little as $16.37 each in a 10-pack. If you don't need sound, these are the way to go! Especially since they are new and come with a warranty.

riogrande5761There is that show Sister Wives about a guy with mulitple wives.
I noticed that guy does not have a train layout.
Multiple wives and no trains? No thank you.

Living the dream.
Track fiddler riogrande5761 So she asked him, "what would be nice?". And he replied: "Having seven wives..." That was Rich! I can easily agree with the obvious side of that statement But on the other side of the coin, I have a difficult time enough understanding the one that I do have let alone complicating it by seven times the confusion. I don't know if the fringe benefits of the trade-off would be worth the trouble it would create Maybe ask the Egyptian harem guys and see what they have to say about it If they're still sane enough to rationally talk to you TF

Many wargaming forums have "Exchange" sections where users can arrange trades, or give away unused items, but not sell for money.
But, that is an entriely different hobby where most people are constantly changing interests and trading off stuff. Model Railroaders are much more committed to their projects, so there is probably less to trade away.
Back when I was buying lots of locos that came with DCC, no sound, that I was converting back to DC, mostly Bachmann Spectrum, I would sell the decoders I removed on Ebay for VERY modest prices.
I still may have a BLI sound decoder or two that need a good home....

This was accually studied and for some women they liked it, share the work and companionship but just as many did not and with the opposite situation, men mostly did not like being one of many, guess men don't like to share. Beleive it or not this, along with lots of other things can be traced back to prehistoric times. Our modern thought is our brains are sopposed to be able to discount ingrained things from pre times but as we do more resurch, we find this is not true for many.
I personally would like to get some Bachmann sound value decoders, there are those here that just take them out and throw them in a box. The real trouble with doing distance things is the distance, I have had many things of value to others but not to me that I would have given away, when clubs existed here you could do that and decluter your life and feel good about it.
No, what was suggested was a free exchange but since it goes against human nature, that would never work as some people are greedy.
mbinsewi wjstix Problem is if someone is doing DCC but not sound, new non-sound decoders aren't all that expensive. Most folks would rather pay a little more for a new decoder with 'state of the art' features and a factory warranty if anything goes wrong. That's my thoughts, as well. A basic non-sound decoder goes for under $20. Sell the decoders on Ebay, or HO Swap, or whatever site you use. It's been awahile since I've visited other forums that I participate in, but some do have a thread for sale items. Mike.

Basically yes, HOSwap or eBay. At least with eBay, there is protection if you end up with a bad decoder.
Regarding the title of this topic - once again, "click-bate" to get us to look since it's so open ended.
But "Wouldn't it be nice" reminds me of something my mom told me many years ago. She heard my dad say exact phrase when he was talking in his sleep. So she asked him, "what would be nice?". And he replied: "Having seven wives..."

A website where people could go online and buy and sell things? That would never work!
Seriously, I get what you mean. Once I'm done converting all my engines to DCC sound I will have a fair number of 'leftover' non-sound decoders. Just read a post about someone upgrading basic dcc decoders to sound equipped decoders. Wouldn't it be nice if there was a forum somewhere where newbies to dcc could purchase those used basic decoders to get started with coverting their fleet of engines. Sort of a dcc exchange site
