Installed but not tested, no reason why in should not work. Carved a bit of the plastic on the female and shoved in in hole I drilled, thought I might have to glue it but it is wedged in super tight.
I used these for two lift outs and have been happy with them. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079RBL339/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_7ATSBYHEEQFRKBTX0VC5?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Ordered the parts and on the shipping ads they offered a femail plug that is mounted like I need if plan A dose not work.
No it dose not need to be perminant but I do like to work at my desk/computer station/workbench. It is a big desk.
Does it need to be removeable?
I wired a conveniently located stub end siding at the front of my layout with a DPDT toggle after isolating the siding. I can just run an engine on, flip the switch and Presto! It's a programming track!
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
I'm with Dwayne here.
I use bananna plugs that are spaced the same as the standard used on the RR AMPmeter.
Then I can splice the RRampmeter between the load and supply for a good reading both volts and amps.
I used these (or similar)

You can get many styles, dual, right angle, stackable, etc. Also many types of sockets and binding posts.
I like them on the test track as I can plug in various meters and devices.
I have a rotary switch that allows me to select the LokProgrammer, Sprogg2 or MRC metered DC supply then the plug, then the test track.
I can also plug in a length of track in the paint booth so I can have the drivers slowly turning for paint or weathering. There's a mounted Kadee coupler at one end.
Regards, Ed
da1 Purchased something like this at Radio Shack years ago but the equiv is available from other manufacturers. I like this solution as it allows connection by wire or by banana plug. Dwayne A.

RR_Mel Yes that will work. I use those for several goodies on my workbench and layout. And I bought the same set. I thought you wanted a chassis mount.Mel My Model Railroad http://melvineperry.blogspot.com/ Bakersfield, California I'm beginning to realize that aging is not for wimps.

Item number 5 on first link, would that work, already pre wired, on the one end I can attach to track as I have screw ons (old test track for train shows and the other I can use a posi-connect, so no soldering.
I think I would go with barrel connectors.https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313&_nkw=PCB+Mount+5.5mm+x+2.1mm+Barrel+Power+Connector&_sacat=0https://www.ebay.com/itm/4x-5-5mm-x-2-1mm-Male-DIY-Wire-Mount-DC-Power-Socket-Connector-Barrel-Jack-New/274606678333?hash=item3fefd5613d:g:4TQAAOSwZaRf0IIzAbout the most practical. I want to wire a couple of female plugs oo the facia so I can plug in a couple of male plugs attached to a removable programing track.
