Index CV's
1. Ensure CV 31 (CV Index 1) is set to a value of 16.
There is no need to enter CV31 value. By default it is on 16 which is the correct value. You can check if CV31 is = 16 if you want but pointless as it is a default value. Notice the Soundtraxx instructions says "ensure "
2. Enter a value of 1, 2,or 3 into CV 32 (CV Index 2) to select Indexed CV Page 1, 2 or 3 as the active indexed CV page.
CV32 is the index and it must have the specific index value.
Then you enter your CV that must be changed usually between 256 and 512.

JMRI simply takes care of this in the background for you, but it is this simple.

Hi all,
Thanks for everybody's input! After being away from things for a few days, I download JMRI onto my mac and used it with the Zephyr DS52 and boom! Programmed perfectly.

Keep alives make a hash out of everything - except the three wire types that can disable themselves during programming. Which is why using Ops Mode on the main is very useful. Since the OP said he did try Ops Mode, it's not the keep alive if there is one. The DCS52 is the first of the Zephyrs that can actually select a CV number greater than 255, so he should be good there - but the order of setting the index does matter which is probably the issue. There was one firmware update for the DCS52 but Digitrax doesn't include release notes, but I don't think that had anything to do with CV selection (as in, the as delivered firmware couldnt access the higher CVs it was supposed to, and the update fixed that - it seems the update was related to consisting). But you never know - might be worth having the latest firmware installed. Since the DCS52 already has a USB port, all that is needed is a Windows computer, the DigiIPL program, and the firmware file, both downloadable from Digitrax. But check if the latest is already installed, when you turn the unit on, it will display the firmware version briefly as it initializes.

Is there a keep alive? I found some old threads about older zephyrs needing boosters, but nothing about the latest model.

Indexed settings MUST be in order, and the order would normally be in the order in which they appear in a column or list, or textual instruction.
betamaxYou may have the order reversed: Enter CV32 first, then CV31
It doesn't say that the order is critical in your link, other than the high CV is programmed last. Nor do the Tsunami and Loksound directions specify CV 32 must be set before CV 31
You may have the order reversed:
Enter CV32 first, then CV31 followed by CV401
DCCWiki: Indexed CVs
I have installed a TSU-2200 into a Bowser K4 that I built, and I am unable to correctly program the indexed CVs to get automatic whistle effects. I am using a Digitrax DCS52 Zephyr. When I set CV 31 to 16, CV 32 to 1, and then try to set CV 407 to 1, it writes '129'. I have tried resetting the decoder, all the various programing modes (on the main, direct, paged), all with no luck correctly writing to the indexed CVs. I also tried the '2' and '3' indexed CVs, and I can't write to those correctly either.
The non-indexed CVs I can read and write just fine.
I tried to google around, but couldn't quite find an answer. I am still fiddling, but thought I would post the question here. Thanks all!
