You can use any powerr pack, you just have to cuth the power pack connector off to have the two wires you need to attach to standard power packs, or perhaps Kato sells a connector which has their track connector at one end and plain wire instead of their power pack connector at the other. The trains themselves use the same power source and specifications as any other HO or N scale trains, so there is no problem other than bypassing the special connector with using any standard power pack. ANy newer transistorized pack will woirk with any scale, old ones with rheostats, they used different values for N and HO, and the products are typically marked as such. Those old HO packs don't run modern HO locos very well, either.

DCC power paks for Kato
Posted by SteveSans on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 10:03 AM

I have Kato layout with Kato pwerpaks. Only option w Kato power paks to boost paower is an booster wire they sell which brings their new standard power pak up to 2.1 amps and 16 volts. Are any other more powerful power paks compatible with Kato Traks or am i stuck waiting for them to come up w it? Please let me know. Thank you
