Should be the same as previous Athearn diesels.
Something like the Nix Trainz decoder buddy allows you to put in any 22 pin decoder - you could even go no sound for now and later swap in a sound one.
I use Loksound. The performance is great and they have pretty much any sound you could ever want. Plus it's nice having a consistent brand across all locos, either to manage them all and controlt he functions when they have all the same function assignments.

Hello,
I'm looking forward to getting three new Genesis ES44AC's from Athearn. It's the "Legendary Liveries" run. They're scheduled to be in stock mid to late December, all three are Warbonnets.
Train Control Systems tell you which decoders go with what brand of locomotives, but a few diesels are missing or have been left out.
Mine will be non-sound to avoid paying a high price, what decoder works with these? I want both front/rear headlights and the ditch lights to work.
Any suggestions?
