Need Pin-out Diagram For Tsunami BW1000
Posted by Mark R. on Sunday, September 22, 2013 10:33 PM

Does anyone have the pin out diagram for the Tsunami BW1000 decoder - GN1000 should be the same.

I have a decoder with no diagram, and Soundtraxx doesn't appear to have one on their site either. (?)

The motor and speaker terminals are obvious, as well as where the truck leads go. What I don't know is what terminal on both ends is the blue common, and on the side that has two unmarked tabs, and two for F5 and F6 - which is also confusing as this should be a four function decoder. (?)

Hard to see the forward arrow. I think that the photo you show has the front of the decoder to the left.

If that is correct: the top left pin is front right rail pickup (pin 1) the next pin just below, is pin 2. common for front light. The pin just below that is pin 3,  front light control. the forth pin is front left rail pickup.

The pin to the top right is rear right rail pickup, just below that is rear light common, the next pin is rear light control. and the last pin on the right lower is rear left rail pick up

The four pins at the top middle of the board are for light functions F5 and F6. From left to right F6 control-then F6 common, then F5 control and the last is F5 common.

I don't recall, but I think that a BW1000 decoder has resistors on the board for LED's. Better check with SoundTraxx on that one because I can't recall .

Might be worth the call to them anyway just to make sure. Sure would be better than buying a new decoder.

One would think that Soundtraxx would have the wiring /connection diagram on their website in one of their manuals.  But I looked and all they seem to show are the harnessed decoders with the decoder itself wrapped in blue shrink tube.

Not sure what the OP did with the packing material that the decoder came with. It shows the connections.

No kidding !  I was given the decoder by a friend of mine that came installed in a Bowser engine - hence no diagram.

The decoder is also preconfigured for direct LED installation and I require full voltage on F5 and F6. Guess a call to Soundtraxx is in order ....

Look real close at the board, there might be a 14 volt pad for lights. Not sure what you are trying to power up?

If you are powering up a light bulb or something else.

Just to the left of the upper capacitor along the edge, there's a small round solder pad labelled +14. Can I assume this would be the full voltage output for the common blue + ?

It cost to higher programmers to do this stuff. More than most people realize.

Seriously ? I spent over an hour searching online for the pin out of this decoder with no results. You provide a link to a Google search and a link to Soundtraxx's website ? .... you think that wasn't my first step ? Your links provide nothing in terms of actually finding an answer.

Hummm, what's the word I'm looking for?  Oh, yeah.  It's "baloney".  I looked at that link and all I see is a bunch of pictures of "stuff".

Before I made my comment, I did "use my powerful device" and went to the Soundtraxx website and searched there.  I also skimmed through all four of the manuals they have for their sound decoders.

Somewhere in those 219 pages should be the picture of what gets connected where.  There is no programmer involved.  The information is just something that seems to be omitted.

I don't know what to say,,,,,,but I was curious,,so I clicked on the link,,found BW 1000,,clicked on it,,,and it downloaded the instruction manual for it and tells you what wire to put where and for what...including,bulbs or LED's..Also speaker wiring.

Cheers,

If you found that info you are a better man than I.   I was not interested in searching through what looked to be several dozen things trying to find some information that should have been easily located elsewhere.  If we go to the Soundtraxx website and find the decoder there, we'll find that the manual is referenced with a link.  The link is to the four manuals associated with Tsunami sound decoders.  That is where the info should be found.

Yes, the net is a powerful tool, but that does not negate the fact that some information should be found in logical places.

So if you actually did find it, why are you reluctant to provide the url where the information actually is ? I've gone through every page of each of the four part manuals and can't find it. Your computer is a powerful tool in that it actually gives you the address where specific information is located.  ;-)

I hate guessing games ....

Click on the soundtraxx link,,find your decoder on right, click on that it will show, steam or diesel, click on the one you want, then click on installation manuel,it will download the manual and go from there..how much easier can that be,for one,I don't know what you have it in..I'm just going by the decoder number..And there are different installs for different engines..

Frank:

I guess you didn't follow your own advice to see where all that leads us.

The Soundtraxx site for the BW-1000 is: http://www.soundtraxx.com/dsd/tsunami/tsuBW1000.php

The Tsunami manual link at the bottom of that page is: http://www.soundtraxx.com/manuals.php

There are 4 parts to the diesel owner's manual there, comprising the close to 200 total pages I referenced above.  So far as I, and apparently the OP, can see, nowhere on any of those pages is there a drawing showing what the OP wants to know.  Maybe we both should be called Tommy.

I give up,,something told me not to get involved with this,,,,,,did any of you try to download, the Installation Guide,,,,,not the Manual,per-say?? that is where I found the diagram's and it was not 200 pages and I'm not even in DCC..

did any of you try to download, the Installation Guide

I presume that you mean this installation guide: http://www.soundtraxx.com/manuals/tsuinstallation.pdf.  Yes, there is a diagram on page 22 that shows the connections, assuming that you have a decoder that comes with a harness.  The OP does not have a decoder with a harness, so what he needs to see is what is under that blue or purple shrink tube.  And that assumes that what is under the cover in the picture is a decoder board of the same configuration as the one which he has.  I don't believe that is the case as his is, I believe, one that is supposed to replace the loco light board.

I just spent a lot of my time, looking for things, that I should have not got involved with to begin with and it appears to me that,,I do see that it does say what color goes to what pin and what the function of that color is,but I don't know what the corresponding numbers are on the decoder are there any numbers on the decoder???  SO,,,I would believe,a toll free call to soundtraxx 888-789-7637,,would save everyone,a lot of time.....

.... and still you refuse to post the url / page number where you have supposedly found this information ....

I've looked at and downloaded every manual on their site, and there is no wiring diagram for the BW-1000 decoder. The only place I can assume that would have the wiring diagram would be the package a BW-1000 comes in .... which is what I was hoping someone had.

The only diagram in the Installation Guide, Figure 16 on page 22, shows the wiring connections for one of the standard shrink wrapped decoders. No place in that manual does it show the BW1000 or even AT1000. The Quick Start Guide has the same diagram as Figure 1, Page 7. Neither the User's Guide or Technical Reference Guide have any wiring diagrams.

Even this AppNote for a Stewart F7, while it shows a 'wiring diagram' fails to show which of the headlight connections is the +!! And makes no mention of a full voltage common.

Got an e-mail back from Soundtraxx. There is no diagram for this decoder online. They scanned the instructions from the BW-1000 packaging and sent it to me.

All the function output tabs are pre-resistored for a 3.3 volt output. That tiny solder pad by the capacitor that says +14 can be used as common for full voltage output.

If you look closely, the oval solder pads are the common, and the rectangular solder pads are function outs.
