Wolfgang Dudler built several small locos like that (he passed away last year, but his stuff is still out there on the 'net.) Here's a link, with more info available via searching. This one's standard gauge, but he also did HOn3..

Has anyone ever installed a decoder and speaker(s) in one of these critters?  I'm thinking an HO micro decoder or an N scale one, and cell phone transducers/speakers.  Availability of appropriate sound files is another question.

As an alternative, I've toyed with the idea of motorizing one of those Jordan Mack 18 tonners, but think it might be prohibitive for cost (almost $90 for an NWSL Stanton drive, less for a Flea) and also space available.  I haven't bought one of the Jordan units and don't know what sort of underframe it has or what the wheelbase is.

Thanks for any advice.
