It sounds to me like you're trying to run a DC loco with a DCC unit. You can't do that with the NCE system. The loco has to have a DCC decoder in it. Check the box the loco came in to see if it says DCC equipped or DCC ready. If it says DCC ready you hav to put a decoder in it.

It means there is no DCC decoder in the loco and it will fry the motor if you try it for too long.

I pray every day I break even, Cause I can really use the money!
I started with nothing and still have most of it left!
Thank you. I've been looking around for decoders. I see they are like $20. Can I use any type? My train is DCC ready. It has 8 pins where they say I just have to plug in a decoder.
You can use any type decoder that has an 8-pin plug.
jeffrey-wimberly You can use any type decoder that has an 8-pin plug.
Depends upon the brand and type of locomotive as well as scale.
Not every 8-pin decoder will fit in every loco.

Most European manufactures are using the EU 21 pin standard. Your lucky its an 8 pin. Not being a European locomotive expert the closest sound decoder would be a Loksound V4 with the ICE sound set.
