I forgot to mention I did change CV 08 to 08 so now all the decoders are factory set. To clear up anything I may have screwed up

Maxman

Again thank you for responding. Out of 300 plus treads you two were the only plp to make a suggestions of how to remedy what i needed.

I have been using my chief since 1995 I have updated the controllers cause the 100's can no longer get parts I still have 4.

I really do not get into the inter workings of the system i just have run as designed for the last 14 years no problems. I read that PRR ran longhood forward my SD9 ran the other way so I thought I would ask for help. I have read all the original manuals from the 90's. I read the manual you sent and had no idea what was going on. you are right that if I don't go by manufactures rec's trouble is emminit. I have had fun for the past 14 years and now I do belive I will continue to do just what i have been doing. The tech is just fine for those who need it but my trains run continuous no problem

My old layout was 24x24 fully operational card system. I have retired and moved south and only have room for 9x11 now

Again thank you very much for your input

Yes, I read through the other thread, but not sure how it's functioning properly on a value of eight though - seems strange for sure.

Since CV29 has standard values set forth by the NMRA recommended practices, you can use this CV29 calculator to determine the value set for any decoder ....

Mark:  there were at least two other posts on this subject, including this one: http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/744/t/218361.aspx.  The OP accomplished what he wanted to do, but I think not in the best method.  If you read through that thread you'll find that he has some strange values in CV 29.  But if he doesn't want to change the value, then that's up to him.

If you wish to change the direction of travel, read CV29.  If it is
even, program it to the next higher odd number.  If it is odd, program
it to the next lower even number

Right off the press from Digitrax

That is why my change worked the other day nothing special lol odd& even thats all.

I knew it had to be easy if i could not figure it out.

You all have a nice day

That may be what it said, and it may have worked for you, but if you re-visit your original post on this topic I referred you to the Digitrax manual which had a table of "valid" CV 29 values.  My recommendation would be to use one of these values to accomplish what you needed to do, rather than just "adding 1" to an existing value, especially since the existing value looks suspicious.

I say this only because as you get further along in your knowledge of things DCC you'll find that not following the manufacturer's instructions, or only partially following them, will more often than not get you into trouble.

But then that's just my opinion.
