hi guys, got a soundtraxx NON- sound mc1h102p8 that I had in a HO Stewart vo1000 that consisted with a exact match with a tsunami . If not familiar the Lil mc1 plugs in to the dcc ready port on most Stewart,proto and such and is suppose to match the motor control of the tsunami.
Anyhow I needed a quick decoder to check out /breakin some new additions ,so pulled the Lil mc1 out of the vo1000 and stuck it in a frame of a p2k sd9 chassie brand new old stk then a Stewart f-9 chassie brand new old stk and noted some strange running like the Lil unit MAY be overheating ,
the units would scoot along very nicely for say 40-50 seconds then slow to a stop then after about 10 seconds take off again on there own ..... NOW the led headlight in the Stewart unit would NOT blink ,flicker .go out or anything during these events ! the track was just cleaned over the weekend and all other units run fine so I have to assume its this decoder.....
any Ideas ,and are these Lil decoders a waist of time and dollars ? I was excited by the motor control match to the tsunami but found it not as smooth in the vo100 as the tsunami....Jerry
The decoder has an internal circuit breaker on the motor drive circuitry to protect it against overload. It sounds to me like the decoder is shutting itself down because the locomotives you're putting it into draw too much current.
You need to perform a stall current test on those engines. According to the SoundTraxx web site, the decoder is rated at 1 Amp stall current.
thanks, though it would hard for me to imagine both these units are surpassing the amp rating of the decoder with no train or even shells , I well check them

Sounds to me like you have the decoder address selected on more than one throttle.
I would use a DC powerpack and ampmeter between the power and the loco with the loco on a piece of track to get total load of drivetrain, without a decoder. Don't forget to add the lights to calculate total draw.

What kind of DCC system are you using? Are the two throttles identical types of throttles?

hey there Guys; the system is a older digitraxx zephyr as command and yard throttle with a empire builder as 5 amp booster , then I have the 402 thottle (tethered) and a little ut-4 throttle (the guilty party)for when the grand kids come ALL are tethered no radio or anything . the ut was showing the address but thought it was dispatched and unpluged..OPPs...Jerry ALL is OK now
