Sound for Bachmann Doodle Bug.
Posted by rockislandnut on Monday, May 27, 2013 12:51 AM

Has anyone ever succeeded in installing a sound decoder ( I despise the default decoder it came with ) and speaker in the HO Bachmann Doodle-Bug with trailer?

If so what is the brand of sound decoder, what size speaker?

Mine is getting old and feeble just waiting for one. Bang Head

Thanks.

Wadda ya mean I'm old ? Just because I remember gasoline at 9 cents a gallon and those big coal burning steamers.

I don't recall seeing anything about putting sound in the Bachmann doodlebug, but there was an item a few weeks ago on repowering one using North West Short Line parts to correct a cracked gear problem.  Bachmann reportedly has no parts available.  The NWSL kit costs almost double the price of the doodlebug.

If I were going to put sound into one, my choice would be a LokSound Select decoder.

I've put decoders into two or three early version Bachmann doodlebugs and believe some of the interior detail would have to be removed in order to fit a speaker.  The roof area is all taken up with lighting.

After doing a search, I found some put a Tsunami 750 in it. Some put a 1000. Some put a LokSound. Did not find any photos yet. I think they hid the decoder under the seats.

Oval speaker up in the shell firing down I believe.

A couple believe the 1000 is better because of one amp, versus 750ma.

Try searching You Tube. I saw some videos there for the Doodlebug and some mention the decoder and speaker.

I did a Google search for: Best DCC Sound Decoder for a Bachmann Doodlebug

The below link was the first one listed. With the thing upside down, use tooth picks to hold the sides from the frame.

Rich,

That's how I found it,,,on Google,,,,,and I think that is rather funny,,,because here on MR,our search function, hasn't worked right in awhile,,,,and on Google you can find our post's and forums, relatively easy..

If I search for "Best DCC sound Decoder for a Bachman Doodlebug" in the search bar on the right I get the old thread in question.

Notice bachmann is misspelled.

Also, to do phrase searches here, you need to enclose the phrase in quotes, otherwise you get every hit that has all the words even if they are not next to each other. Thus without quotes you get any thread that has talked about DCC, sound, Bachmann locos, and Doodlebugs.

Actually, just putting Doodlebug Sound in the search bar finds the thread in question, plus this one, plus at least one other about adding sound to the Bachmann Doodblebug.

Are you using the Search this site box or the community search box? Search this site gives me a bunch of broken thumbnail image links, Search the community only searches for forum posts, not the entire Kalmbach site - that's the one you want.

Works fine with IE. Also tried it with Chrome, works there too.
