Quick question about tsunami install on athearn sd70m-2
Posted by Ohio Central on Monday, May 13, 2013 9:30 PM

I just bought a tsunami decoder for my athearn sd70m-2 and I am not sure which speaker would be the best. Isn't the enclosure 1 inch and what recommendations do you have for a good speaker?

Hi OHC-

Use a 1.1" round speaker. You can order them from http://www.tonystrains.com/

For a complete install on the Genesis SD70ACe/M-2 check out this series I did: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQXiEYfE4C0

Or better yet, get a 1.1" round High Bass speaker.

A 1.1" High Bass Speaker will not fit in these locomotives. Add the 1.1" round in the existing enclosure behind the cab, and add a medium 34.7mm x 20mm oval speaker with enclosure under the rear radiator. Sounds superb.

Is the High Bass speaker  too deep?

Yes, the HB is too deep. On most of my sound installs for modern diesels, there is room for a 28mm HB speaker in the cab area, if all the details are removed. Kato and Athearn RTR locomotives are good candidates for install of the 28mm, not the Genesis SD70ACe/M-2.
