Wheel cleaning
Posted by Beaver Creek Southern on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 12:03 PM

Hi all

Just noticed how oxidized and dirty my N Scale Kato PA-1 w/ DCC is.  Interested in knowing if anyone has a neat way to keep thes bright, other than running them (which I sadly do not do much)

On another note I just cleaned my track w/ NO OX and love the results

Thanks

To clean my wheels, which I do when ever the lights start to flicker, I use the paper towel strip over the track.

I put a little rubbing alcohol on it where the set of wheels will make first contact. Run for a few seconds while holding it in place then move it forward on the dry part of the towel moving it back and forth so the wheels drag and the crud is scrubbed off. Do this with the other set of wheels. You should be able to do this with a little practice.

I also have used No-Ox about two years ago, but since my space is not climate controlled I need to do it again. It does help. Other wise I just wipe down my track with a strip of cloth bed sheet folded over a block of wood when ever I need to wipe dust, pollen, etcetera, off the tracks. I don.t need to do this very much until now. That's why it is time to re-no-ox.
