I think the OP hit the NEW POST button instead of the REPLY button. This has happened more than once to new folks.
Elmer.
The above is my opinion, from an active and experienced Model Railroader in N scale and HO since 1961.
(Modeling Freelance, Eastern US, HO scale, in 1962, with NCE DCC for locomotive control and a stand alone LocoNet for block detection and signals.) http://waynes-trains.com/ at home, and N scale at the Club.

Don't bother contacting the character at rfgco, he doesn't even list a phone number.
If you want to talk to someone, call Doug at Portlines.
rrinker BTW for the rest of the crowd, just because it's American Flyer does not mean it's S gauge.

True, but odds are that it is S gauge.
If it sparks where the leads go up intot he car body, the wires are probably frayed. If it's a vintage car, not a newer repro, the insualtion has probably mostly decayed and the wires are simply shorting out.
BTW for the rest of the crowd, just because it's American Flyer does not mean it's S gauge. The O scale Burlington Zephyr I had that was my Dad's would disagree with the idea that all AF is S, as would the couple of HO cars and little blue 4 wheel industrial diesel I have. AF pre-war made O and HO, postwar they went to S and then got in the HO action as well, with standard 2 rail DC HO equipment. In fact, i think it was winning the little industrial switcher set as a door prize at I think the Moose Lodge is what got my parents into HO trains, before I was born.

dkateyn.
Is the car you are referring to, Power Floodlight car?? With a diesel generator in the middle and flood on one end,it's a depressed center flat car? If you would like to talk to some people who can help you..get in touch with,,, www.rfgco.com They deal in nothing but American Flyer trains, parts and repair..
HOPE that HELPS,
Make sure that the two trucks are aligned correctly to avoid shorting out the car.
Try rotating one of the trucks 180 degrees.
dkateyn,
Is it possible for you to post a couple of pictures of the underside of the car, especially the truck with the pick-up wires?? May be able to figure out what is going on from that.. I haven't done anything in S-scale since 1952,, But I'll give it a shot.....

You will have better response's and or results if you posted your question on the Classic Toy Trains Forums,, All the O and S-scale people hang out there...
Can anyone point me towards any previous post or know how to fix an American Flyer search light car? When put on the track sparks fly from the wheel attachment that goes up through the flat bed of the car. Thanks!
