Updating Digitrax Peripheral Devices
Posted by alloboard on Friday, March 8, 2013 1:54 AM

When updating the Digitrax DT402D. I think you have to update the UR92 with the firmware file labeled UR92 Rev 6 and the DT402D throttle with the DT402D Rev 1.5 with the Digitrax Digital Initial Program Load software. Read the read me instructions of the  Digital Initial Program Load program. Now all of you out there when you update these two components you have to update the UR92 and the DT402D with the RF24 1.0 firmware separately. i.e use the Digital Initial Program Load to update the UR92 firmware when you select the UR92.DMF file with the Digital Initial Program Load software. After that find the RF24 1.0.DMF and install it. Repeat the same for the DT402D. The UR92 and DT402 use the same slave (RF241.0.DMF) When using the Digital Initial Program Load software, click on find devices you will see the UR92 and DT402. The SWVer of the UR92 should be 0.6 and the DT402 1.5 The SWVer of the slave RF24 should be 1.0. Digitrax did not explain this adequately. I found out myself after lots of trials. If anyone out there has any questions regarding this task feel free to ask me.

Time...It marches on...without ever turning around to see if anyone is even keeping in step.

This update is only for those who own a Digitrax system.

And so you've invested hours into a system that cost hundreds to get it to perform well.   I use Digitrax too and while I Iike most of what they do, there are aspects that seem excessive.   And they have made it harder to work with them via phone.    I have a DT402D that has to go back since the radio signal has drifted and won't connect to the UR92.    The infrared doesn't want to pick up easily since the radio "works". Glad we have a few other throttles.

I found out the hard way that signalling is expensive hard work!!!  Especially when custom wiring PRR signal disks!!! Not to mention wiring occupancy detectors, switches and dividing your layout into power districts. My Digitrax DB150 system is connected to my latest windows 7 republic of gamers ASUS custom built PC with an Intel i7 3.66 GHZ cpu. I use RR and Company and JMRI. I also have a prepaid HTC Android 4.1 4 .3 inch phone with 3G and 4G with Engine Driver 2.6 installed. With that I can control my trains over my LAN and 3G internet.

I just have to laugh. In the past, any system comparisons always gave a black mark to Digitrax for not being user upgradable. Despite the fact that there's been really only 1 in the past 15 years, because of the peer to peer nature of Loconet (you don;t have to upgrade the command station to get new features).

Now all the new devices have user-upgradable firmware and now it's too much trouble...

Can't have your cake and eat it too.

FWIW I had no trouble updating my DT402, using my laptop, my PR3, and the DigiIPL software. It just worked. All the radio updates - unless you are running with multiple users/throttles, have both UR91 and UR92 units, or possibly multiple UR92's, you probably don;t need the updates - ie, if things are working. I will guarantee the club never updated the UR92's or any of the throttles - we generally don't have radio issues even with 7-10 in use.

If you have a radio throttle you want to force to IR - just turn off the RF in the throttle settings. It won't even try radio then, and fall back to IR immediately when unplugged.

I'm not sure if peripherals like SE8c BDL168 and PM42's are upgradeable with firmware.

So far just the DT402 series throttle, Zephyr Xtra, PR3, and UR92 radio transcievers. Probably any new products that come out will have updateable firmware.

I have updated a Zehpyr Xtra/UR92/DT402D using the DigiIPL software.  It is a free download, and works via a PR3 or LocoBuffer type interface.  One can do updates in a mater of minutes - No mail delivered eproms or mail-in the system.

As far as little 'voice' support - The web based 'service' at Digitrax works quite well from my experience with a throttle upgrade and a repair action on a 8 year old Zephyr.  Voice support is getting replaced by web based/live chat for many products.
