Paragon2 EMD NW2/SW7 Switchers (2013 Run)
Posted by Guy Papillon on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 5:16 PM

Does anyone have any experience with this particular model?  Although I have been lucky with a BLI 2-8-2 Light Mikado, I know from this forum that BLI locomotives can be good or bad.  As I need (O.K. Want) a switcher for my layout in CN livery, I am really tempted by this model but not if it is risky to get a bad one.

What about the quality of sound?

I and a couple of other club member have 4 of the original production run and 2 of the newer batch.  They are very smooth running, albeit very slow; and the sound is excellent.  They are intentionally geared really slow because yard switchers are not meant for mainline use.

Hi.

I am not sure which run it is but I have the BLI NW7 PRR #7914 (model number 2259) for 4 months now with no issues.  Very nice detailing on the unit compliments the great slow running characteristics which make it ideal for switching duties.  The sound is also top notch.

All the best.

I have an early run NW2.  Although it is not my smoothest or slowest running engine it is very satisfactory.  I have had no problems with it and would buy again if I needed (wanted) another NW2.
