New to DCC
Posted by MCalwell on Saturday, March 2, 2013 6:33 PM

Hi,

I recently purchased some HO train gear. This inlcuded a Digitrax Empire Builder and an MTH F7 (85-2009-1) Proto Sound 3 engine. Right out of the box, the engine worked fine. I changed the train number to reflect the engine # (1404). All good for a while.

Now, the engine only operates under address 00 and none of the DCC functions work. Sound comes on immediately when track power is turned on and the trains putters around the track at minimum speed.

It seems it's fallen into a "DC-only" mode. I've tried a factery reset using CV 55, but has not worked.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Mike

I would use the reset with CV 8 to 8 if the decoder uses that reset process, and if you can't do it with Ops Mode (programming on the main), try setting the address on the throttle to 00, enter blast mode or Ops, and try resettng the decoder that way via CV 8.

Note that if the decoder is a QSI, you must change three CV's, not just one.  Also, you must remove power to the decoder and then restore power before the reset works.  So, do the reset, turn off track power, restore it, and see what happens.

When you reprogramme the address, don't forget to also set CV29 to 34.  That eliminates any DC weirdness.

(I did say I was new... )

So, after running through my setup again, I realized I plugged "RAIL B" wire into "GROUND" on my DB 150. Once I fixed this, all was good.

Sorry for the mis-fire. Thanks for your help.

It's an MTH, you need to use Ops Mode to address 55, setting CV55 to the value 55 for a reset.

Select address 55, even though you don;t have a loco with that address. Then press the program button until it says OPS on the screeen. Pres CV, enter 55, Press CV. Enter 55, press Enter.

Now take the loco off the track for a second then put it back. Select address 3, and it whould run.

I completely misread the fact that it was MTH.  Missed that entirely.  Sorry.
