Surroundtraxx

Finally have my sound up and running. When finally understood, Digitrax and Surroundtraxx systems work well together. Still have some debuging and fine tuning to do for my N Scale layout but I LOVE sound.

Richard

My layout is an L shaped N Scale measuring 10' x 2' along each wall and it has a 3'-6" x  8" peninsula off one side. I have 15 individual blocks arranged in 5 Sound Zones. I am using a woofer on the 6th Sound Zone. I am pleased with and utilizing all Digitrax equipment.

I am trying to install surroundtraxx as well, but when I select 6 channle mode the sound goes off.

My transponder seems to be working. Can you help with this?

To reply to your question directly, I will ask a couple of questions.

1. Are you using six speakers or 5 speakers and a woofer?

2. Have you, like me, not tested transpondering as a sugested in the BDL168 manual?

If transpondering is working it is suggested that the headlight when travelling in the normal direction of travel will FLICKER. I had this to be the case but sound did not work.. My great revelation came when I got information fron the Yahoo Group " Surroundtrax". This is the correct spelling of the group name to differentiate it from the company.

I discovered errors and inconsistencies in the Digitrax manuals. For example they show the Zone Common wires being run through the RX1s where you need to detect downstream, running the wires from the BDL's pins to the terminal block then to the track.  The RX5 reads zones from left to right not right to left.

I can attach a sketch if it help later.  I would strongly suggtest that you join the Yahoo  Surroundtrax Group for a reliable source of good information. The posts already on the site will be of great help.

Keep in contact as I will be interested in hearing the successes and problems of others setting off on this new adventure,

Thanks Doug, my layout is small on a 3x6.8 door. Iam using four speakers and a subwoofer.

The transponder is working fine. When I set up the system for 5 channels, the sound fades away and does not come back. It's fine in single  channel.

John

I assume that you have set up all sound features for your locomotives and all other necessary preparations to begin using sound. As I stated,  I had exactly the same result when I attempted to start up sound. My problem again was associated with which wires I ran through the RXs. Each RX1 controlls a single Sound Zone so you must use RXs A to D and their ID # are 00, 02, 04, 06. One RX for each speaker.

Not being there makes it difficult to know exactly what you have done. Keep asking questions and hopefully you will sort it all out.

Hi Doug, I think you have soslved my problem. I was useing only one RX because I misread the instructions.

I'll try what you suggested and let you know.

Thanks for the help.
