Interesting! Thanks for that. Up here, trains must display red to the rear, a FRED or, in the case of Canadian Pacific, a red engine.

Here in BNSF land the pusher leaves the headlight on and dim - which ever direction it is pointed. No ditch lights or EOT.

I take only pictures then leave footprints on railroad property that I know is not mine, although I treat it as such...
Should be displaying red to the rear! A FRED for example.
And it also scares you to death when your passing a stopped train on double track (overtaking them)
mactier_hogger Why would you want the DPU headlight to be on? Did somebody at the shop fail to turn it off

If a DPU is at the end of the train the headlight or backup light is on to serve as a warning to following trains.
This is another good reason for getting JMRI Decoder Pro.
The programming tabs for the decoders will have a page where you can set up the lights etc when the loco is in consist mode using check boxes. Of course it can still be done without using decoder pro, but you really have to dig through the manual to find all of the information (which I don't have).

The above is my opinion, from an active and experienced Model Railroader in N scale and HO since 1961.
(Modeling Freelance, Eastern US, HO scale, in 1962, with NCE DCC for locomotive control and a stand alone LocoNet for block detection and signals.) http://waynes-trains.com/ at home, and N scale at the Club.
You can set the front light to work with function 5. This function will work regardless of direction. Set CV 33 to 16.

I have a coal train set up with 3 Soundtraxx Tsunamis installed in Kato AC4400CWs . I would like the headlight to be dim on the DPU even while the train is moving forward. Is there a way to accomplish this with programming certain CV's? The DPU is set to run in reverse and is the technically the third unit in the consist. The consist is set up Forward Forward Reverse. CV 22 is set to 61 in both 1st and 3rd locos now.
