Power supply for booster
Posted by tjm428 on Monday, July 16, 2012 6:27 AM

I have a Digitrax Zepher  and I also aquired a DB100a booster that I want to use on part of my layout, the booster requires a power supply of 5 amps at approx. 15 volts. Does anyone have any plans for building a power supply using Radio Shack electronics. I would rather build one and not spend $150 on a power supply.

Should be able to pick up a power supply for about 35.00 to 50.00. Dont know where you got 150.00 for a power supply but you better check around some of the online dealers that sell digitrax such as Tonys trains. Jim.

I think the OP is looking at a "real" 5V power supply rather than a wall transformer for powering his DB100a.  As gondola stated, tjm, a wall transformer should work just fine for you.  Most of them are $50 and <.

Tony's Train Exchange has the Digitrax, NCE, and Magna Force power supplies. all in the $45 to $47 range. http://www.tonystrains.com/products/dccaccess_ps.htm

You might be able to throw a supply together for a little cheaper but Radio Shack doesn't stock a transformer that size in their stores. You would need to go to a mail order shop like Mouser or Digikey.
