For O scale, Radio Shack 276-1171 bridge rectifier or one with a 6 amp rating.

TIP120, a 40v, 10 a Darlington HEP S9142, MJ4034, MJ4035, 2N6283, 2N6284.

Five amp circuit breaker

The original specs from the MR magazine article, Dec. 1977, recommends a American Flier or Lionel transformer. Whatever you use, suitable wattage.

I built the HO version many years ago.

You will have to look through the various regulator for wattage and another heat sink. You might not need the regulator if the voltage is within the 555 specs or don't use that chip.

I figure you have sources for parts since you are building your own power pack.

Schematic for DC Power Pack
Posted by sandusky on Thursday, May 31, 2012 10:48 AM

I need some help locating a schematic for a (non-DCC) straight DC 12 train controller. Atricles for building your own throttle hese used to show up from time to time in the mags, but with DCC in common usage, I've not seen any in a while. This needs to be all "brute force and ingnorance"; as I will be using this to power multiples of Jet 400 and Jet 600 motors, as well as Pittman and Roco-motored 2R O scale. Any ideas?

Thanks-

Mike Sayre
