Restoring DecoderPro Roster from a Crashed Computer
Posted by JPD on Thursday, May 31, 2012 10:35 AM

A few months ago my laptop crashed--as in hit the floor and got smashed--and I purchased a new laptop.  I thought I had reinstalled everything on my new laptop, but the other day I noticed that all the locomotive rosters I created in DecoderPro are missing.  I still have backups of my old laptop, but I need to know what JMRI DecoderPro files contain the roster information and settings so I can restore the files and place them on my new laptop.  Any glues on how to proceed would be welcome.

These are individual files with an .xml suffix. Your will find them in the "jmri/roster" folder. After copying these files to your new computer, don't forget to index using the options found in the Debug section of the JMRI menu.

If you think you reinstalled everything try starting JMRI. Then in the top menu look for 'Debug'. In the drop down menu select 'Recreate Roster Index'. after a few seconds check if your roster is there.

You don't say what OS your using. The roster file locations are different for each OS. This link tells where the preference files (which include the roster) are located.

Take the roster folder from your backup and place it in the preference directory. Now recreate the roster index again.

If you still have trouble try the JMRIusers group for more help.

Thanks for the tips.  I have now found and restored all of my roster.
