Thanks for your advise

I was able to get things back to normal by resetting the Powercab System as Guy had suggested.

Thanks again

Mike.

The beauty of your Power Cab is in its ability to read even the most stubborn sound decoders on the programming track. Place the first loco on the program track and read its address. Read CV19 and CV29. CV19 should be 0. CV29 should be whatever value that is calculated for the way the loco is configured.

Do not use the NCE recovery on any other brand of decoder but NCE.

Personally I would use NCE recovery program only with NCE decoders. Resetting a QSI decoder requires the setting of 3 CVs, I doubt the recovery program would send the necessary commands.

When I have to trouble shoot a QSI here are the steps I do and in that order.

Issue a Double click of F6 to insure the loco is not in a sleep mode issued by a double click of F9

Make sure CV19 is set to zero ( 0 ).

Verify the value of CV29 should be 2 or 6 for a 2 digits or 34 or 38 for 4 digits.

Check the values in CV17 and CV18 for the right address if it is a 4 digits address.

And lastly reset the decoder.

I can't tell what is the problem and I don't have much experience with this system (only few weeks) but reading the System Reference Manual that came with the cab I can suggest two things you can try.

Was the locomotive on an isolated programming track or were you programming on the main and reprogrammed all your locomotives at the same time? If the case, you can try Option 7 (Recovery Programming) of Menu 4 (Use Program Track). (page 54 of the System Reference Manual)

If, as you think, the cab is the problem, you can try RESET SYSTEM?, the last option of Menu 5 (Setup Command Station) ( page 57).

Good luck.

Problem with NCE Powercab (I think)

Hello All

I recently tried to reduce the sound on one of my QSI decoders. On the first attempt nothing changed, after the second attempt the loco does not respond to any commands and is silent. I thought at first it was the decoder but my other loco also does not respond. I know there is power to the tracks as the interior lights work on the passenger cars.

Is there any way to restore the powercab to default settings? Or any other suggestions?

Thanks

Mike
