Bruce, did you get an answer yet? If not, I found a website where there is a description of how to do what you want. See: http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/5573.
Scroll down to where the big print says "I rec'd my e-prom chip". Then scroll down a little more until you pass the photo of the 06 with the 8416 on the display. The second paragraph below the photo describes the sequence.

OK, I got that but......
Once I enter the accy mode, I press the number of the turnout I want to actuate with the switch 8. Then, I am lost. What happens next? If, for example, the turnout is thrown, how would I get it to change?
Yes. Mine have a sticker on the back explaining the procedure. To run a macro, it should be Shift, then Shift again, followed by Select. The LCD display will change to indicate "route," at which point you key in the macro and press "Enter." To work a single accessory decoder without a macro, you do the same except for pressing Select only once.

Blind Bruce Will a cab 06 work a switch 8?
Will a cab 06 work a switch 8?
Should be able to. The 06 has, I believe, select accessory capability.
