That only applies to the Gold Series with sound decoders. Sound just plain isn't practical in DC, but some people want sound but just refuse to go DCC. Oh well. The Silver Series versions of those locos have no decoders and no additional electronics other than diode directional lighting and will run just fine on DC.

Recently exploring the Atlas web site, I saw this information stated about their GP38 and MP15-DC locomotives.
Due to the higher starting voltage required to operate the sound system, it is not possible to MU a non-sound-equipped loco in DC (analog) mode.
I do not own any Atlas Gold series of locomotives, but I do own several Atlas Silver series locomotives. I desire to run the silver series locomotives on my layout. I plan to run them in DC mode with a regular transformer. Am I going to have any problems because of this notation in running these silver series locomotives in DC or is this notation only referring to the Atlas Gold Series locomotives? Thanks for the expertise.
