This is a DCC sound conversion project I did a few years ago for the version that had the plug in the tender, but maybe it will give you some ideas of how to tackle this.

 Just extend all 8 wires to the tender. That would be the minimum effort job. For much improved oepration, add additional pickup wipes to the tender trucks to get even better electrical pickup, but even that is just splicing in the additional pickups to the red and black wires (just don't cross them, or there will be an instant short).

Sound in a Rivarossi Allegheny?

I have one of the first-run Rivarossi Ho scale Allegheny locomotives. Since the decoder socket is in the boiler, how do you install any one of the more popular DCC sound systems in the tender? I'm looking at the QSI Quantum Revolution or Tsunami. Have any of you done this before? Can't figure out how to move everything to the TENDER! Looks like it ain't gonna be easy. Am I right??
