If anybody wants to know I called Digitrax and talked to their tech dept. and tried everything they suggested doing. Such as resetting the controller to factory defaults, resetting CV8 and 29 in all the programming modes, and also status editing. After all that didn't work they said that it had to be the locomotive itself. I then called Hornby America and tried to tell them the problem. Before I had completely described the problem they told me that they have received several calls about that engine. The decoder in the engine has been giving problems, and they would send me a new decoder. So hopefully when that decoder comes, it will fix the problem.
Thanks, Darren.
Randy, thanks for the suggestion. The headlight was solid while the engine and sound fluctuated. Also one thing I forgot to mention, (along with the headlight) was that when I turned the throttle down the engine would run great as it simulated momentum to a complete stop. However turn the throttle back up and again it would act the same. I had not changed the address to the locomotive since it is so new. I changed the address to 2, and checked CV29. The controller returned with 14. I changed it to 2 as you suggested and nothing its still the same. I also did a reset of the controller just in case that was the problem, with the same results. If you have any other suggestions I would appreciate them. I am beginning to wonder if the decoder itself is not compatable with the digitrax controller. My brother has a Bachmann E-Z controller. We tried it to see what would happen, and the engine ran great with the sound. So I don't know,

Yes, CV29 is both cases

rrinker Was the headlight also going on and off? It could be that the loco is set for 14 speed steps. What address is is running on? If it's still on address 3, or anything less than 128, set CV29 to 2. If it's 128 or higher, set CV39 to 34, and see if that helps. --Randy

I think Randy means CV 29 to 34

I just recently purchased the Rivarossi DCC Big Boy with sound. When I placed it on my layout it sounded great. However, when I tried to run the engine with the Digitrax DCS51 Zephyr the engine would jerk as it went down the tracks. The sound also in accordance with the jerking was jumping between off and on. I CV08 to the value of 8 the engine with no change. I also cleaned a section of track to see it that made a difference, but with no change. I just happened to mute the sound and then ran the locomotive and it ran great. Any ideas on how to run the locomotive smoothly with the sound?
Thanks,
