Yeah, the delay is normal, and like I said, not a big deal for me. Enjoy your thorttles.

Rob,
Just got off the phone with Larry at NCE. I asked him about the delay in acquiring a loco when using the Cab 06R radio throttle. He said there can be a very slight delay, 1 second or less, in acquiring the loco when using a radio throttle. He said the connection speed is usually slower with any radio throttle than with a tethered throttle.
In my operation, I don't think this short of a delay will have any significant effect on how I operate. It certainly doesn't out weigh the convenience of a non-tethered throttle.

Thanks for the information. I'm about to order the NCE PH Pro 5 Amp Radio unit for my N-scale layout. I'm going to be calling NCE in the next day or two with some other questions about the base unit and I'll ask them about the acquisition delay in the Cab06 radio throttles. I'll let everyone know what they say.
RFinch I'm a little concerned about a delay in selecting locos in the radio version, if it's true.
That part is true, I can tell you that from experience. There's a second or two of delay after you select a loco before the throttle acknowledges your input. If you or your operators are really impatient I suppose it's a potential problem, but it hasn't proven to be a big issue on the NCE layouts where I've operated.
Bruce,
There was a review of the NCE Cab06 in the November 2011 issue of Model Railroader on page 75. The tethered version was tested in this review. I'm thinking of buying one of these in the radio mode. Let us know what you find out. I'm a little concerned about a delay in selecting locos in the radio version, if it's true.
I have a tethered Cab06, and a couple of my operators have some Cab06Rs. In general we like them, although one of the guys who bought both the 06 and 04 thinks the older 04P with the potentiometer provides a nicer response. Using default settings, running a macro (for accessory decoders) off the 06 requires extra button presses (hit shift twice, then select, then the macro number).
I like having the display for the decoder address, plus the extra display for direction. Both of those are big improvements over the Cab04.
I've "heard" some good remarks about the CAB-06 throttle but I don't have any personal experience with one. The one thing that I did read is that there is a 5-6 sec. delay when selecting a loco or running a macro in radio mode, which isn't the case with a radio Pro Cab throttle. There's more info about that on the NCE Yahoo! group.

Time...It marches on...without ever turning around to see if anyone is even keeping in step.
Have there been any reviews or comments on the CAB06? I am thinking about the R version but I would also like user comments on any 06.
