It seems that it may be time to replace the decoder with a newer one. If one is available.

Thanks to all responders.  I will try to see how it responds in an old style consist with a brand new P2K sound equipped E7.  It is installed in a very early LifeLike E7 and is the 2nd unit in a back-to-back lash-up for the Katy/Frisco Texas Special.  I'm hoping to avoid replacing the decoder if I can.  The unit is already set to run in reverse at power-up, so we'll see.

In addition, a value of 129-255 in CV19 corresponds to 1-127 but indicates the loco runs in the opposite direction, such as when connected back to back.

That old MRC decoder does not allow CV readback and does not support Advanced Consisting (CV 19), either.

That decoder problably does not support CV read back. Even some of the newer MRC decoders do not have that feature.

I understand that CV 19 is used to support Advanced Consisting, so what should that CV read to indicate that a particular decoder can be placed in such a consist?

Cv19 holds the Advanced consist address. The consist address can be 1 to 127.  A value of 0 in CV19 tells the decoder to respond to commands to its short or long address (depending on CV29). A value other then 0 in CV19 puts the decoder in an advanced consist . Consist address is the value in CV19.

I understand that CV 19 is used to support Advanced Consisting, so what should that CV read to indicate that a particular decoder can be placed in such a consist?  Also, I have a very old MRC AD310 decoder installed in a special engine that runs fine but does not respond when trying to readback addresses or any CVs.  Do any of you guys know if this decoder would  have CV 19 to support advanced consisting?
