ESU LokSound V3.5 decoder problem
Posted by rrlcommish on Friday, January 27, 2012 5:39 PM

I have this decoder installed in a Proto 1000 F3A locomotive.  I am using a Digitrax DCS50 (the "older" Zephyr) DCC system.  Something has gone haywire with the locomotive.  When I apply power to the track, the loco powers up and starts moving forward with no input from me.  So I tried to do a factory reset by programming CV 8 = 8 (per the manual and another thread on this forum) and it appears to have taken but the locomotive just ignores that and keeps moving forward...no other commands (horn, whistle, throttle, etc) work.  But the engine sounds are working as it moves.  What in the world do I do to get this thing to reset?

Can you control anything at all? It should be address 3 now that you reset it, if the reset took. It could be that it's actually selected in memory and not cleared - try the OpSw 39 reset in the back of the Zephyr manual to reset the Zephyr itself and see if it still takes off.

No control whatsoever.  But other locos work fine, so I don't think it's the Zephyr.

Well, Randy was correct, I reset OpSw 39 and it fixed the problem.  Strange, but I'll take it.  David, thanks for responding too, I'll print that off and keep it with my DCC notes anyway.

I'm guessing you just had it selected and not properly stopped and dispatched. Plus the reset didn;t take, or the old stuck address wouldn;t have controlled it.

When you are done using a loco make sure the speed control is all the way at stop and the handle is in the brake position, then hit Loco and Exit. Then select the next loco to run.

David

I also have a LokSound Mini and need to reset it back to factory default. I'm using it on my F7A.

There is no reset for the loco, so do I just follow your instructions to reset the decoder as outlined?

Thanks

Yes, it should work the same.  LokSound methods should work for all their variants unless the manual says otherwise.
