Honestly, I have not gotten to that project yet, I still have not started painting the shell either.
When I do I will put it up here.

I appreciate the good suggestions!

Hi!

Have you installed the Tsunami in your MP15AC?

I want to install one in my MP15AC, is the Tsunami AT1000 board or the Tsunami 1000?

Can you post pictures of the installation?

The Tsunami is the way to go It should be this one which is the non turbocharged one: There is also an AT1000 version which is a board you solder to.

For speaker, pick the largest one you can use without taking too much weight off.  Don't forget the baffle.

Hey, Thanks Randy!

I appreciate it. Yeah the undec version of the MP15AC let me explore it, without whacking the finished MILW unit. It seems there is room there, but as you mentioned, I didn't see(recall) a speaker location. Brings up another point, I made a crossing signal & ordered two 8Ohm speakers to test it with. I really like the Maga Bass offreing, as a first impression.

What speakers do you'all like the best?

Modification, Soldering, Improvising, are right up my alley -no problem.  Space requirements are not too much of a concern, as I can do some serious modification due to a a 2700Lbs Lagun Mill. It can do some real precision work, I have cutters down to .010, but only went down to .030 so far, in actual real 'chucked in' work.

So, I guess my revised questions are;

Tsunami 645 for MP15AC: y/n?

Mega Bass Speakers: y/n?

Thanks again!

Just the basics, if you are goign to do the SD40-2 yourself, you should have no problems with the MP15 - it's just smaller and space will be more limited. You will probably have to use a smaller speaker than you can fit in the SD40-2, the existing MRC speaker is probably fine actually, unless it has no enclosure. Not sure just how much space there is under the hood, the TSU750 is much smaller than the TSU1000 and might make things easier. It's really no different then putting the decoder in one that currently has nothing. Remove the existing stuff and you now have - a loco with no decoder, Proceed as if it never even had the old decoder.

Athearn MP15AC Sound Upgrade
Posted by ChadLRyan on Friday, July 30, 2010 7:30 PM

Hello, I'm new to the DCC forum, as I just put on order an NCE 5 amp unit for a small (4' x 8') test track/layout.

My question is about the Ath Genesis MP15AC. I bought the early MILW with the (other) sound decoder that happens to pause the momentum when sound functions are toggled. I have some Tsunami equipped machines & think they are excellent. I also ordered a TSU1000 (645 Turbo) for a special Kato SD40-2 project I'm in the middle of. I would like to Tsunami the MP15AC & it's undec brother, & want to know if any of you have a suggestion on which sound decoder is more prototypical. (the chopped V8 sound) I don't mind replacing the whole board, a I prefer that as to an add-on daughter board.

Please feel free to guide me to a good choice to retrofit the existing MILW, & scratch fit a DC Undec MP15AC. I'd like to do it right, -right off.. So far I have only been running them in DC mode, until the NCE unit I just ordered comes in. I am sure I will like being able control the functions of lights & sync sounds.

Any suggestions & tips are very welcomed, as DCC is new to me, but I have done a lot of research, & hope to be able to poke my way around, with your influence & real world experiences.

An advance 'Thank You' for those who read &/or reply.          Thanks Again!!!!
