Decoder installation for PK2 GP-20
Posted by tsanders1950 on Friday, January 22, 2010 12:14 PM

I own two Proto Power 2000 GP-20's that were manufactured by Life Like and are about 5 years old.  I would like to install decoders in each to run on my DCC layout. I opened them up and they have circuit boards but no eight pin connectors. There are three black wires on each end of the circuit board to run the lights, etc. and two wires that are along side the motor and attach to the circuit board on the side.  Could anyone recommend a decent replacement decoder for this unit as well as offer some assistance on how to install it?  I have heard that there is an issue with lighting on this model and sometimes you have to replace the lights since the amps are too low and/or burn out.  Thanks for any assistance you can offer.
