Sound decoder in Kato SD80MAC (HO) ?
Posted by elansp on Thursday, November 6, 2008 11:09 PM

All-

Awaiting for its arrival.  I'd like to retrofit a sound decoder in it.  Any one have any suggestions, illustrations, pictures, etc?   Thanks in advance.

A Digitrax SoundFX decoder is the one that Kato uses if you purchase the Kobo sound-equipped version, but I have found the Kobo's volume to be very weak compared to other brands.  This may be due to the speaker that the Kobo models are equipped with.  Digitrax uses an odd-ball impedance value speaker (32 Ohm) which is difficult to replace.
