Hey I am going to install a BN style rotating beacon (Orange) and ditchlights to a Walthers Trainline Dash 8, I need to also instal DCC on this loco. Where can I get the beacon, and what decoder do i need to run ditchlights, headlights and a beacon? Is it possible to do this in basic DC like just have them all running and on the beacon, headlights and ditchlights? Thanks Mike
It can be done on DC.http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/ctn/ctn1400.htmCircuitron also sells strobe circuits for a beacon light. I know I've seen one other company that sells a DC ditch light circuit, but I remember it was around $35.

this loco has a six functiion decoder installed, and is set to have lights functon on DC.
Loco is pre ditchlight era, but the decoder can handle them if they were there.
Ok thanks, now is that a kit of ditchlights that oscillate? And how do I go about wiring these DC? Just into the same place on the board where the head lights go just wire them all together? So they are all on at once if i do it in DC?
Here's one place to get lighting effect circuits for DC. Richmond Controls http://www.richmondcontrols.com/
Most DC decoders have this stuff built in. You'd need a decoder with at least 5 functions - Forward light, reverse light, one for the beacon on top, and two for the ditch lights. On some decoders you can program them for which functions will be active when running on DC, but you have no control over them - if you program it to be on, it will be on the entire time the loco is running on DC. When running on DCC you have full control of which ones come on, in which direction.
