Bachmann Decoders and others on plain DC?
Posted by xdford on Thursday, October 9, 2008 8:03 AM

Hi all,

Hope this has not been covered earlier but I cannot find it this close to Midnight here in Oz and I do not frequent this part of the forum!

Can Bachmann decoder units be used OK on plain DC? Also Digitrax and NCE?  I believe there is a problem with Hornby chips also.

This query came up at the cluib tonight from someone else who runs DC but likes the look of a Bachmann offering on DCC... I did not try to talk him out of it!

Regards and TIA

Trevor

I have no problem whatsoever using Bachmann and Digitrax decoders on regular DC. As far as I can tell they're completely transparent.

The Bachmann locos that they are selling as "DCC On Board" are able to be used on DCC or DC, your choice.  I have used them on my layout when it was DC and had no problem.

The Digitrax decoders have had some problems such as when the loco is going through a turnout then suddenly reverses direction.  This happened on a Russian Decapod that I installed a Digitrax decoder in.

I have one NCE decoder in a SD50 that I have had no problems with.
